Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 45 to 54.
Many ants forage across the countryside in large numbers and undertake mass migrations; these activities proceed because one ant lays a trail on the ground for the others to follow. As a worker ant returns home after finding a source of food, it marks the route by intermittently touching its stinger on the ground and depositing a tiny amount of trail pheromone – a mixture of chemicals that delivers diverse messages as the context changes. These trails incorporate no directional information and may be followed by other ants in either direction.
Unlike some other messages, such as the one arising from a dead ant, a food trail has to be kept secret from members of other species. It is not surprising then that ant species use a wide variety of compounds as trail pheromones. Ants can be extremely sensitive to these signals. Investigators working with the trail pheromone of the leafcutter ant Attatexana calculated that one milligram of this substance would suffice to lead a column of ants three times around Earth.
The vapor of the evaporating pheromone over the trail guides an ant along the way, and the ant detects this signal with receptors in its antennae. A trail pheromone will evaporate to furnish the highest concentration of vapor right over the trail, in what is called a vapor space. In following the trail, the ant moves to the right and left, oscillating from side to side across the line of the trail itself, bringing first one and then the other antenna into the vapor space. As the ant moves to the right, its left antenna arrives in the vapor space. The signal it receives causes it to swing to the left, and the ant then pursues this new course until its right antenna reaches the vapor space. It then swings back to the right, and so weaves back and forth down the trail.
Câu 45: What is possibly the main topic of the passage?

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 55 to 64.
After two decades of growing student enrollments and economic prosperity, business schools in the United States have started to face harder times. Only Harvard’s MBA School has shown a substantial increase in enrollments in recent years. Both Princeton and Stanford have seen decreases in their enrollments. Since 1990, the number of people receiving Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degrees, has dropped about 3 percent to 75,000, and the trend of lower enrollment rates is expected to continue.
There are two factors causing this decrease in students seeking an MBA degree. The first one is that many graduates of four-year colleges are finding that an MBA degree does not guarantee a plush job on Wall Street or in other financial districts of major American cities. Many of the entry-level management jobs are for students graduating with Master of Arts degrees in English and the humanities as well as those holding MBA degrees. Students have asked the question, “Is an MBA degree really what I need to be best prepared for getting a good job?” The second major factor has been the cutting of American payrolls and the lower number of entry-level jobs being offered. Business needs are changing, and MBA schools are struggling to meet the new demands.

- pursuing B. seizing C. avoiding D. examining
Câu 61: Which of the following descriptions most likely applies to Wall Street?
- A shopping district B. A major financial centre
- A neighborhood in New York D. A centre for international affairs
Câu 62: According to the passage, what are two causes of declining business school enrollment?
- Low salary and foreign competition
- Declining population and economic prosperity
- Fewer MBA schools and fewer entry-level jobs
- Lack of necessity for an MBA and an economic recession
Câu 63: The first paragraph is mainly concerned with which of the following?
- A current trend affecting the nation’s business schools
- Two decades of hard times for business schools
- factors contributing to the decline in MBA students
- The difference between Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford

- Different species of ants around the world B. The mass migration of ants

Câu 61: Which of the following descriptions most likely applies to Wall Street?
- A major financial centre B. A centre for international affairs
- A shopping district D. A neighborhood in New York
Câu 62: According to the passage, what are two causes of declining business school enrollment?
- Lack of necessity for an MBA and an economic recession
- Fewer MBA schools and fewer entry-level jobs
- Low salary and foreign competition
- Declining population and economic prosperity
Câu 63: The first paragraph is mainly concerned with which of the following?
- A current trend affecting the nation’s business schools
- The difference between Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford

- Different species of ants around the world B. The information contained in pheromones

Câu 48: The phrase “the one” refers to a single________
- species B. food trail C. dead ant D. message
Câu 49: According to the passage, why do ants use different compounds as trail pheromones?
- To attract different types of ants. B. To reduce their sensitivity to some chemicals.
- To protect their trail from other species. D. To indicate how far away the food is.
Câu 50: The author mentions the trail pheromone of the leafcutter ant in the second paragraph to point out________
- a type of ant that is common in many parts of the world
- the different types of pheromones ants can produce
- how little pheromone is needed to mark a trail
- that certain ants can produce up to one milligram of pheromone

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 55 to 64.
After two decades of growing student enrollments and economic prosperity , business schools in the United States have started to face harder times.
Students have asked the question, “ Is an MBA degree really what I need to be best prepared for getting a good job?” The second major factor has been the cutting of American payrolls and the lower number of entry-level jobs being offered. Business needs are changing, and MBA schools are struggling to meet the new demands.

After two decades of growing student enrollments and economic prosperity , business schools in the United States have started to face harder times.
Students have asked the question, “ Is an MBA degree really what I need to be best prepared for getting a good job?” The second major factor has been the cutting of American payrolls and the lower number of entry-level jobs being offered. Business needs are changing, and MBA schools are struggling to meet the new demands.

- The mass migration of ants B. How ants mark and follow a chemical trail

Câu 48: The phrase “the one” refers to a single________
- food trail B. message C. dead ant D. species
Câu 49: According to the passage, why do ants use different compounds as trail pheromones?
- To attract different types of ants. B. To indicate how far away the food is.
- To protect their trail from other species. D. To reduce their sensitivity to some chemicals.
Câu 50: The author mentions the trail pheromone of the leafcutter ant in the second paragraph to point out________
- the different types of pheromones ants can produce
- that certain ants can produce up to one milligram of pheromone
- how little pheromone is needed to mark a trail
- a type of ant that is common in many parts of the world
Câu 51: According to the passage, how are ants guided by trail pheromones?
- They follow an ant who is familiar with the trail.
- They sense the vapor through their antennae.
- They avoid the vapor spaces by moving in a straight line.
- They concentrate on the smell of food.
Câu 52: The word “furnish” is closest in meaning to________

After two decades of growing student enrollments and economic prosperity , business schools in the United States have started to face harder times.
Students have asked the question, “ Is an MBA degree really what I need to be best prepared for getting a good job?” The second major factor has been the cutting of American payrolls and the lower number of entry-level jobs being offered. Business needs are changing, and MBA schools are struggling to meet the new demands.

- success B. surplus C. Nurturing D. Education
Câu 58: Which of the following business schools has NOT shown a decrease in enrollment?
- Stanford and Princeton B. Harvard
- Princeton D. Stanford
Câu 59: The phrase “ trend of ” in the first paragraph is closest in meaning to which of the following?
- drawback to B. reluctance of C. extraction from D. movement toward
Câu 60: As used in the second paragraph, the word “seeking” could best be replaced by which of the following?
- examining B. avoiding C. pursuing D. seizing
Câu 61: Which of the following descriptions most likely applies to Wall Street?
- A neighborhood in New York B. A centre for international affairs
- A major financial centre D. A shopping district
Câu 62: According to the passage, what are two causes of declining business school enrollment?
- Fewer MBA schools and fewer entry-level jobs
- Low salary and foreign competition
- Lack of necessity for an MBA and an economic recession
- Declining population and economic prosperity
Câu 63: The first paragraph is mainly concerned with which of the following?
- factors contributing to the decline in MBA students
